Some 2,000 scientific short films have been submitted to the 2017 Noor Student Competition in Iran.

The deadline for submissions of scientific works and videos to the Noor Student Competition has come to an end, with over 5,000 students participating in the competition this year.

The Noor Student Competition launched in early December last year with aims of identifying students’ strengths and talents, fostering them and developing new perspectives in student communities as well as promoting scientific cooperation between educational centers.

Student groups take part in the challenge by sending 60-second films of their scientific experiments in all fields of science, including physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and astronomy.

The distinctive feature of this year’s event compared to the previous year was participation of schools from regional countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Specifically, 5,110 students in the form of 2,194 groups registered and 1,193 videos were sent to the foundation this year.

The top 100 selected works will be broadcast on a weekly TV program. Other prizes include granting laboratory and science equipment to the selected schools and research centers.

The laureates of Noor Student Competition will be honored for their achievements at the closing ceremony of the event, which will be held on September 1, coinciding with the anniversary of Eid al-Adha, the second most important holy festival in the Muslim calendar.
